
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 23 ranking is a familiar spot for the Union College women's tennis team as that is where the Lady Bulldogs remained in the final NAIA Women's Tennis Top 25 Coaches' Poll, the organization announced Wednesday.
Union collected 47 points, three more than Oklahoma Baptist University. The Lady Bulldogs are the only team from Region XII in the Top 25, but Indiana University Southeast garnered one vote.
The top nine teams fell the same way, with Auburn (Ala.) University Montgomery at the top with all 13 first-place votes. Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University is second with Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College and Vanguard (Calif.) University from three to five.
California Baptist University starts the next five as Berry (Ga.) College is seventh. Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) holds onto the eighth spot and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (Fla.) University is ninth. Southern Nazarene (Okla.) University, up a spot to crack the Top-10.
Brenau (Ga.) University had tenth two weeks ago in the last rating, but fell to No. 20. Xavier (La.) University and Georgetown (Ky.) College went the other way, jumping eight and six spots, respectively. Xavier landed at 13th and Georgetown is one spot behind.
Next on the schedule for the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champs is the NAIA Region XII Tournament this weekend. Union owns a 12-4 record entering the event as the Lady Bulldogs look to repeat as Region XII champs and advance to the NAIA Women's Tennis National Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs will play Midway (Ky.) College, from the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Friday at 1 p.m. The tournament is hosted by Milligan (Tenn.) College.
