BRISTOL, Tenn. – Behind a four-run fourth inning, the Union College softball team was able to advance in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday with a 5-2 win over Virginia Intermont College.

Ashley Tatman and Lee Davis, both Lexington, Ky. natives accounted for two RBIs a piece with base hits during the fourth frame.

Union will now play Milligan (Tenn.) College, the top seed and AAC regular-season champions, in a 7 p.m. contest Thursday. The winner advances to Friday's AAC Tournament Championship game with a 2 p.m. first-pitch while the loser plays at noon.

The Lady Bulldogs took the lead when Tatman drove Lyla Blauser in with a third-inning single.

Driver, an All-AAC selection from Hopkinsville, Ky., went the first 5 1/3 innings without allowing a hit. The first Virginia Intermont hit was a bunt single from Katie Poredos. The Lady Cobras scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh off the sophomore.

The final line for Driver showed that she threw a complete game and allowed two unearned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts.

Blauser reached base three times with two singles and a walk. Tatman also had a pair of hits with season-best three RBIs.

Union improved to 21-25 on the season while Virginia Intermont moved to 12-28.

Krista Dyer suffered the loss for the Lady Cobras. She surrendered five runs on eight Union hits.
