KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Union College was well-represented on the 2008 All-NAIA Region XII Baseball Team as four Bulldogs made the squad, the organization announced Tuesday.

Juniors Marty Popham (Louisville, Ky.), Joe Grinstead (Bowling Green, Ky.), Lioney Henriquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Josh Ehringer (Somerset, Ky.) all collected All-Region Team honors.

It has been a record-setting season for the right-handed Popham. He set the single-season record for wins in a season with his 13-1 record. In addition, Popham broke the single-season record for shutouts (3) and strikeouts (103).

Popham owns a 1.83 earned-run average with eight complete games and has struck out 103 and walked 17 in 88.1 innings pitched. He leads the NAIA in wins and is ranked 15th and 16th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.49) and earned-run average, respectively.

Henriquez has started 52 games and boasts a .307 batting average with 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 47 RBIs. He has also stole 30 bases in 31 attempts. Henriquez stole four bases in a game against Rochester (Mich.) College on Feb. 16. In addition, he had six assists in a game against UVa-Wise on April 12.

Grinstead leads the team with a .436 batting average, ranking him 32nd in the NAIA. The 6-foot-2 shortstop also has 13 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 49 RBIs. Grinstead leads the team with 39 stolen bases and ranks 12th in the NAIA in stolen bases per game (0.736). He started off the season with a 15-game hitting streak and belted two home runs against Georgetown (Ky.) College on March 11. Defensviely, Grinstead had six assists against Covenant (Ga.) College on March 17.

Ehringer is hitting .380 on the year and leads the team with 18 doubles, 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. His .712 slugging percentage is also tops on the Bulldogs. On the base paths, Ehringer has swiped 14 bases. On April 6, he belted two home runs in a game against Tennessee Wesleyan College, and he is the first Bulldog to hit 10 or more home runs in a season since Bubba Szary and Brandon Ketron hit 13 and 11 four-baggers during the 2004 campaign.

Union will open play in the NAIA Region XII Tournament Wednesday against Indiana University Southeast at 1:30 p.m. The tournament is being played at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
