CORBIN, Ky. - For the second year in a row, Union College will open its football season against archrival University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) as the two will fight it out for the "Brass Lantern."

The game will be played at Campbell Field in Corbin, Ky. - a neutral site nearly halfway between the two schools, on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.

The 2006 tilt marked the first time the rivalry had been taken to a neutral site as Cumberlands won the defensive battle 21-9. Scorless at the half, Union took a 3-0 lead early in the third quarter. However, the Patriots bounced back and grabbed a 14-9 lead. The Bulldogs tried to mount a comeback, but a fumble led to another Patriot score as Cumberlands won 21-9.

The "Brass Lantern" is the traveling trophy that goes to the victor of this annual contest. It was introduced to this rivalry in 1995 with the winner of the contest keeping the trophy until the following season. The lantern represents the coal mining industry, paying homage to major industry in southeastern Kentucky where both colleges are located.

Cumberlands leads the all-time series 19-9.
