NEW ALBANY, Ind. - After having to wait nearly 22 hours to complete the game, Union College finished what it started Friday as defeated Tennessee Wesleyan College 7-2 in the NAIA Region XII Softball Tournament, eliminating Tennessee Wesleyan from the tournament.

Union (23-28 overall) will now take on Mountain State (W.Va.) University at approximately 2 p.m. in another elimination game.

Tennessee Wesleyan ends the season with a 20-29 overall mark.

The game began Thursday but was halted after the third inning during to heavy rains with Union up 4-2. Play did not resume until 11 a.m. Friday.

Union fell behind early as Lacey Williams belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to give Tennessee Wesleyan a 2-0 edge.

But Union wasted little time in bouncing back, scoring three runs as it was aided by two errors and a passed ball. Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.) led off with a single and eventually scored when Mallory Lavoy (Temperance, Mich.) reached on an error, making it 2-1. Sherry DeVault (Baltimore, Ohio) knocked in a run on a groundout to second, and Brittany Lemons (Harriman, Tenn.) singled in Lavoy to put Union up 3-2.

DeVault added a RBI single in the third to make it a 4-2 contest.

In the fourth, Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) doubled in Lyla Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) before coming in on Davis' single, upping the margin to 6-2.

It remained a four-run game until the top of the seventh when Blauser's two-out single drove in Lavoy to give Union a 7-2 cushion.

It looked as if Union was going to need every bit of that cushion as Tennessee Wesleyan had runners on second and third with no outs and ultimately loaded the bases with two outs. However, Driver got Emily Montgomery to pop out to her just in front of home plate to end the game.

Driver picked up the victory, improving her record to 15-12 on the season. She allowed two earned runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Blauser went 4-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI, while Davis went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Driver went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI, and Lavoy finished 2-of-4 with two runs scored.
