
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Erick Coleman and Brennan O'Quinn set a pair of Union College records Friday at the Cedarville University Outdoor Challenge and the Bulldogs' 400-meter relay team ran to a NAIA National Qualifying time.
Coleman (Chicago, Ill.) extended his triple jump school record to 45 feet and 1 3/4 inches. O'Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) was .35 seconds better than the previous record in the 800 meters. His time was two minutes and .64 seconds.
Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) ran the first 100 meters of the 400-meter relay and handed off to Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.) Scotty Barnes (Ewing, Va.) took the third leg and Johnnie Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was the anchor leg. The time of 41.86 seconds is a NAIA National Qualifying "B" standard.
Nabors went on to win the 100-meter dash with a 10.83 second run to set the meet record.
Smith also collected the 200 meter victory. He raced the half lap in 23.03 seconds. Smith also finished fourth in the 100 meters with an 11.22 performance. In the long jump, Smith covered 20 feet and 7 3/4 inches which was the second-best jump.
Thornton ran behind Nabors in the 100 meters, at 10.93 seconds and Barnes finished at the 11.45 second mark.
Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) posted a time of 2:01.45 in the 800 meters. In the shot put, Jared Ford (Frankfort, Ky.) threw the shot 38 feet and 8 1/4 inches.
Next for the Bulldogs is the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. Action is scheduled to start on May 22 in St. Louis, Mo.
