MOBILE, Ala. - The Union College Lady Bulldogs opened the 2008 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Monday with a 6-3 first-round win over Georgetown (Ky.) College at the Mobile (Ala.) Tennis Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs, ranked 23rd nationally, improved to 15-4 and move into a Tuesday match with Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College, the tournament's No. 3 seed, at 10 a.m. Union looks to even the season series with Lindsey Wilson after the Lady Bulldogs suffered a 6-2 loss at Lindsey Wilson on April 2. This is the second straight year in which Union opened the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship with a victory. No. 14 Georgetown's season ends with a 12-8 record.

Union needed to rebound after Georgetown owned a 2-1 lead after doubles' play. All the Lady Bulldogs done in response was win five of the six singles' contest with the only blemish being Juliana Negoesk (Curitiba, Brazil) retiring.

This was the first meeting between the Lady Bulldogs and Georgetown since the sport returned to Union in 2006.
