BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College women's soccer team is projected to finish fourth according to the Appalachian Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, released by the organization on Monday.

Union was a firm fourth-place selection with a total of 36 points. The Lady Bulldogs were 12 points behind third-place Tennessee Wesleyan College and seven in front of Montreat (N.C.) College.

The Lady Bulldogs owned an overall record of 7-8-2 in 2007. The Lady Bulldogs' 3-3-1 conference mark was the fifth best record in the AAC standings last season. Union also won a first-round AAC Tournament contest at Montreat.

King (Tenn.) College, the defending AAC regular-season and tournament champions, received all eight first-place votes for a total of eight points. Covenant (Ga.) College was placed in second with 17 points.

Milligan (Tenn.) College was sixth followed by Bryan (Tenn.) College and Bluefield (Va.) College in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Union opens the 2008 regular season on Wednesday, August 27 at West Virginia Tech with a 3 p.m. contest. The Lady Bulldogs will host Eastern Kentucky University for a scrimmage on Monday, August 18 at 10 a.m. The conference opener for Union comes on the road at Tennessee Wesleyan on September 13.
