BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's soccer team is picked to finish sixth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings this season according to the AAC preseason coaches' poll, released by the conference on Friday.

Union garnered 14 points, two better than Tennessee Wesleyan College. Bluefield (Va.) College was eighth with 10 points.

The Bulldogs finished 2007 with a 10-7-1 record, the most wins by the team since a 16-win season in 2001. However, Union finished eighth in the conference, but the Bulldogs earned an AAC Tournament win.

The top-five teams in the poll were all separated by 16 points with Covenant (Ga.) College at the top with 44 points. Covenant is the defending AAC regular-season champion and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. Montreat (N.C.) College was next, followed by King (Tenn.) College, Bryan (Tenn.) College and Milligan (Tenn.) College from third to fifth, respectively.

The 2008 season kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 27, when Union travels to West Virginia Tech for a 5 p.m. contest. The home opener is set for Aug. 30 against Tennessee Temple University, while the conference opener is scheduled for Sept. 13 at Tennessee Wesleyan.
