BECKLEY, W.Va. - Freshman Marcela Salum and sophomore Renata Peixoto notched multiple goal games to help lead the Union College women's soccer team to an 8-0 win at Mountain State (W.Va.) University on Tuesday.

Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) recorded her second straight hat trick while Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) had a pair of goals with three assists. Both players entered Tuesday's match with four goals apiece.

Senior Heather Jaques (Manitoba, Canada) came off the bench to deliver the first Union goal of the contest. She also recorded an assist. Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) booted home her fourth goal of 2008 and Jessica Florence (Frankfort, Ky.) scored her first goal of the season.

Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) played the first half in goal for Union before giving way to Jessica Courter (Cold Spring, Ky.), Ashley Bennett (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Briann Bargo (Somerset, Ky.) in the second half. So far through 2008, no opponent has scored against Union.

The Union defense kept Mountain State from attempting a single shot on goal. In comparison the Lady Bulldogs had 26 shots and 17 were on goal.

After the match Union's record improved to 3-0 while Mountain State slipped to 0-2.

Next on the schedule for Union is a pair of games as a part of the Bulldog Classic on Saturday at Burch/Nau Field. The Lady Bulldogs will host Emmanuel (Ga.) College for an 11 a.m. contest. The classic concludes when Union and Cumberland (Tenn.) University meet for a 5:30 match.

  • Union had a similar three game shutout streak in 2007. Mountain State was the second game of the three between Tennessee Wesleyan College and Bluefield (Va.) College
  • The Lady Bulldogs have four more matches against Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams in 2008. Last season Union went 1-1 against the KIAC.
  • The Lady Bulldogs have has outscored their opponents 21-0 so far in 2008.
