ATHENS, Tenn. - For the fifth time a row, the Union College volleyball team captured a 3-0 sweep over Tennessee Wesleyan College in a road Appalachian Athletic Conference contest on Thursday.

The win gave Union a 9-4 mark overall and 5-2 in the conference. Thursday's victory is the fourth straight 3-0 conference sweep for the Lady Bulldogs and the second four-match winning streak of the season. So far through 2008, Union has been in nine 3-0 matches and winning seven. Tennessee Wesleyan went to 1-6 in conference play and 4-6 overall.

Union won the opening set 25-10 and then captured two straight 25-23 wins to complete the sweep.

Brooke Vinovich (Somerset, Ky.) led the Lady Bulldogs with a season-high 13 kills. She also added 11 digs. Stephanie Pateman (Weyburn, Canada) accounted for 10 kills with two aces.

Freshman Lauren Wilson (Corbin, Ky.) established season-bests with six kills and four blocks. Autumn Combs (Florence, Ky.) recorded five kills and five blocks.

The 33 assists from Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) are the most by the sophomore this season. She also contributed three aces. Christina Prindle (Florence, Ky.) picked up 19 digs while serving a season-high four aces.

The Lady Bulldogs have a week off before another conference tilt at Milligan (Tenn.) College. The contest is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start on Thursday.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • Pateman and Vinovich both surpassed the 100-kill mark Thursday. Pateman has 108, one more than Vinovich.
  • Union has never lost to Tennessee Wesleyan since joining the AAC in 2002 (13-0).
  • Thursday's match marked the start of five straight away from Robsion Arena.
  • The Lady Bulldogs are undefeated in road contest this year (3-0).
