BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's soccer team picked up the seventh win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Asbury (Ky.) College Tuesday on Burch/Nau Field.

The win improved Union's record to 7-1-2 while Asbury moved to 1-5-1.

The scoring started when Sideek Sanogo (Ivory Coast) played a throughball delivered to him by Liam Johnson (East Yorkshire, England) to put Union up 1-0 at the 18:16 mark. The goal was the first for the sophomore while at Union.

Freshman Derek Schardine (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave Union a 2-0 lead with his first goal of the season in the 36th minute. Jonathan Sutton (Portsmouth, England) was credited with the assist. The assist gave Sutton six on the season to lead the team.

"The subs are going to be very important this second half of the season as we get into the depth of our conference play," Union head coach Tyler Brock said. "We are really excited to see the players working hard on the training ground and then bringing it on game day. Overall, it was a good day and I am happy about our performance."

Asbury used a Seth Eckert goal in the 76th minute to cut the deficit in half at the time. Phillip Mullins provided the assist.

To finish the scoring, Johnson received a ball from Aaron Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) and put it away in the final moments to extend the Union advantage to 3-1. The goal is Johnson's sixth of the year which is a team best.

"Johnson and (Tyler) Baker (Burlington, Ky.) provided pressure for Asbury's defense up top today," Brock added. "It was an important piece of the puzzle in today's win."

Max Sisson (Corbin, Ky.) came off the bench and recorded two saves in goal for Union while Jonathan Shaw (Merseyside, England) played the first 76 minutes without a save.

The Bulldogs attempted 19 shots, with seven on goal, to Asbury's eight.
