WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Union College men's swimming team made a splash in the season opening meet Saturday at University of the Cumberlands. The Bulldogs were able to swim to ten national cuts, half of which were "A" cuts along with breaking three school records.

The 200-yard medley relay team started the day with a school record and "A" cut with a time of one minute and 44.16 seconds. Travis Faig (Sevierville, Tenn.) started the relay, followed by Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.), Roberto Bertholo, Jr. (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Adam Woodward (Hopkinsville, Ky.) anchored the team.

Shawn Spoon (Morristown, Tenn.) along with David Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) joined Bertholo, Jr. and Woodward for the school-record swim in the 200 freestyle relay. The time of 1:31.44 is also an "A" cut for the group.

Johnson and Woodward obtained cuts in the 50 freestyle. Johnson's cut was an "A" time of 21.97 for the event win and Woodward finished fourth with his "B" cut time of 23.51.

Johnson added another "A" cut in the 100 freestyle with his winning time of 48.92 seconds.

With a 1:03.73 time in the 100 breaststroke, Viscardi has an "A" cut.

Faig swam to "B" cuts in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. His time in the medley event was 2:09.72 with a school-record swim of 1:00.01 in the 100 backstroke.

Bertholo, Jr. obtained a "B" time in the 100 butterfly race behind a swim of 57.67 seconds.

Colin McEachran (Blenheim, Canada) covered the 500 freestyle distance in 5:22.71, another "B" cut for the squad.

In the team standings, Cumberlands won the meet by a score of 126-70.

Union's next meet is a home event. The Bulldogs will host Campbellsville (Ky.) University and Bellarmine (Ky.) University for a 1 p.m. meet Saturday, Oct. 25.
