BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College cycling duo of Zach Winn and Rachel Millsop collected MidWest Collegiate Cycling Conference Riders of the Year awards after the conference championship Sunday.

Winn, a sophomore from Port Hope, Canada, won his second straight MWCCC Male Rider of the Year award behind nine wins and a second place finish.

"Zach brings a tremendous work ethic and that shows with his results," Union head coach Chuck Coffey said. "He is a powerful rider and is provides a great example of sportsmanship."

Millsop, a sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., is the first Union rider to earn the MWCCC Female Rider of the Year award. During the season, she won seven races with a pair of second-place runs and one third-place ride.

"I am so proud to have her on my team," Coffey commented. "No matter what place Rachel is in, she never losses her cool. Rachel is one of the smartest riders that I have coached."

In all, Coffey has coached four MWCCC Riders of the Year including this year's honorees. Travis Mullen was the first Union rider to receive the award in 2005 followed by Winn's win in 2007.

Winn led a group of Bulldogs in the top four. On the men's side, Greg Gibson (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished second, with German (Nano) Bermudez (Louisville, Ky.) third and Brad Nelson (Carmel, Ind.) fourth.

Union, the MWCCC champion, will race in the National Collegiate Cycling Association championship in Banner Elk, N.C. from Oct. 24-26.
