PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Senior Brandon Kibert posted a 10th-place finish at the Shawnee State (Ohio) University Invitational as he bested the school record by nearly 15 seconds on Friday.
Kibert (Tazewell, Tenn.) crossed the finish line in 27 minutes even, surpassing his personal best and previous school record of 27:14.45.
"It was a good start to the season," said Union coach Jamie Jimison. "We've been running well, but we've not been preparing for this race but through this race. After this race, I feel really good about the rest of the season."
Union had just four runners and didn't field a full team for the event. Host Shawnee State won the race with a perfect score of 15 points. Seven schools participated.
Sophomore Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) had a tremendous showing as he placed 11th with a time of 27:09, besting his personal record by over two-and-a-half minutes as well as posting the second-best time in program history. Freshman Eric Kinman (Erlanger, Ky.) was 19th with a time of 29:15, while junior Brennan O'Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) posted a time of 29:44 to finish 20th.
