Tommy Reid Image
Tommy Reid - Head Coach

Entering his sixth full season as the Union College head football coach, Tommy Reid is beginning his 12th season overall with the program.

Reid is the seventh head coach for the Bulldogs since Union reinstated football as a sponsored sport in 1984, and he is the 10th diff erent person to lead the team during the 44-year history of the program.

As the Bulldogs’ head coach, Reid has compiled an 18-40 overall record. Reid has had two players earn NAIA All-American Honorable Mentions during his tenure, while two others were named a NAIA First Team All-American by Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette. Additionally, three more were selected for the Third Team with 16 more earning NAIA All-American Honorable Mentions in Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette. Five players was honored by Victory Sports Network with one landing on the First Team, one making the Third Team, two on the Fourth Team and another as an honorable mention. Additionally, 15 players have been named to the Mid-South Conference First Team under Reid’s watch.

In addition to the head coaching duties, Reid is the team's off ensive coordinator and the running backs coach. He also serves the Union Department of Athletics as an assistant athletic director.

Prior to becoming the head coach, Reid served as the team's defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator for two-plus seasons. He has been at Union since the 1996 season when he joined the staff as a graduate assistant. Before his arrival in Barbourville, Reid coached one year at Glenville State (W.Va.) College, his alma mater.

At Glenville State, Reid was a three-year starter, being named an All-Conference Honorable Mention following his sophomore and junior seasons. He had a solid senior campaign, earning All-Conference First Team honors. Reid helped Glenville State to the NAIA Division I championship game in 1993 and was a member of Glenville State’s playoff team in 1994.

Reid is married to the former Jennifer Patterson, and the couple resides in Barbourville.

Andre Linn - Assistant Coach

Andre Linn is entering his seventh season as an assistant of the Bulldog football team.

This marks the fifth year in a row that Linn has served as the team’s defenisve coordinator. In 2006, the Bulldog defense had three First Team All-Conference selections as it held opponents to just 232 points - the 10th lowest point total allowed in program history.

During his first two seasons, he served as the defensive line coach before coaching the linebackers and being named the defensive coordinator in 2003. In 2004, Linn was again the defensive coordinator along with coaching the defensive backs.

For the past two seasons, he served as the defensive coordinator while heading up the linebackers.

In 2007, Linn will continue to be the Bulldog defensive coordinator while also directing the defensive backs.

Prior to coming to Union in 2001, Linn spent two seasons as the defensive line coach at Randolph Macon (Va.) College. He spent one season at Juniata (Penn.) College as the offensive line coach.

Linn received his B.S. in Accounting from Juniata in 1998 and started three and a half seasons for the Eagles, earning First Team All-Conference honors in 1997. He received his M.A. in Education in 2002 from Union.

Linn is married to the former Amy Jo Killion.

Marco Knorr - Assistant Coach

Marco Knorr is entering his third season -- second consecutive, with the Bulldogs, although there was a span of two years between his years of service at Union. He will once again be the quarterbacks coach for the 2007 squad while adding the wide receivers to his duties

Prior to returning to Union, Knorr spent 2005 as the running back coach of the Colonge Centurions of NFL Europe. In spring of 2006, he served as both the running back coach and the special teams coordinator of the Centurions.

In 2004, he served as the Bulldogs’ passing game coordinator.

Before coming to Union the first time, Knorr was the running back coach at Illinois Wesleyan University for two seasons. He also spent time in Germany playing and coaching on the Kiel Hurricanes, a semi-pro team.

Knorr played two seasons for Urbana (Ohio) University and finished his career at West Virginia University Tech. At Urbana, he was a Second Team All-Conference selection and named to Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette’s NAIA All-American Team as an honorable mention in 1999. Knorr was named a 2002 BB&T WVIAC Senior-Scholar Award while at WVU Tech.

He received his B.S. from WVU Tech in 2002 and his M.S. from Illinois State University in 2004.

Knorr is married to the former Kellie Smith.


Shaun Person Image
Shaun Person - Assistant Coach

Shaun Person is in his third season as a member of the Bulldog coaching staff and will be directing the running backs.

A 2004 graduate of Union, Person was a four-year member of the Bulldog football squad as a wide receiver and was a team captain in 2003.

Person is a native of Brantley, Ala.


Junior Owen - Assistant Coach

Junior Owen is entering his first season on the Bulldog coach staff as he will serve as the offensive line coach.

A four-year member of the Bulldogs, Owen helped out on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. He spent his sophomore season on the offensive line, while playing on the defensive line the rest of his career. Owen recorded 80 total tackles with 12.5 going for a loss. In 2006, he recorded a career-high 55 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss and 3.0 sacks as he was named to the All-Mid-South Conference East Second Team.

Owen is a native of Gladys, Virginia.


John Gray Image
John Gray - Assistant Coach

John Gray is beginning his fourth season at Union, serving as the defensive line coach. In 2004, he headed up the linebacking corps.

The Union defense limited opponents to 232 points in 2006 - the 10th lowest point total allowed in program history.

The Danville, Ky. native received his Bachelor’s from the University of Tennessee at Martin in August of 2004. He played four seasons (1999-03) for the Skyhawks and was a team captain in 2003.


Kenneth Mitchell Image
Kenneth Mitchell - Assistant Coach

Kenneth Mitchell is entering his second season as a member of the Bulldog coaching staff as he will be coaching the linebacking corps.

Mitchell earned his stripes in college as four-year member of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise football team where he was a linebacker. In high school, not only did Mitchell man the defensive side of the ball, but he also served Grayson County (Va.) High School on offense as a fullback.

Travis Bethel - Assistant Coach

Travis Bethel is beginning his first season and will coach the Union safeties.

A five-year member of the Bulldogs, Bethel helped anchor the team’s defense as a linebacker as he played for Union from 2001-05, missing the 2002 season due to injury. Bethel amassed 194 total tackles with 20.5 going for a loss. He also had 6.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries and three interceptions in his career.

In 2005, Bethel was tabbed as a First Team All-Mid-South Conference East selection.

Bethel is a native of Allensville, Ohion.


Courtney Elesby - Assistant Coach

After completing a very successful four-year career as a member of the Bulldog football team, Courtney Elesby enters his second season on the coaching staff as a wide receivers coach.

Elesby became one of Union’s most consistent receivers of all time. After catching just 19 passes during his first two seasons, he hauled in 106 during his junior and senior campaigns, including a school-record 65 his senior year. Elesby became just the second player in school history to record two 40-plus reception seasons in a career as he finished his career ranked second in program history with 125 career receptions.

In 2005, Elesby earned NAIA All-American Honorable Mention honors and was named to the Mid-South Conference East First Team.
