Sports Medicine

The Union College Sports Medicine staff consists of four full-time certified athletic trainers (ATC) and two graduate assistant athletic trainers that help with coverage needs as well as a variety of other tasks.

The staff ATCs work under the auspices of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and the Kentucky Athletic Trainers Society (KATS). The program is also greatly assisted by Dr. Tom Ashburn M.D., the team physician and liaison with the Lexington Clinic.

We have the privilege of working with highly qualified orthopedic surgeons such as Dr. Kibler, Dr. Dome and Dr. Hester from the Lexington Clinic as they perform our pre-season physicals and evaluate many of our athletes throughout the year. We have a wonderful team of physicians that give top quality care to the athletes that we refer.

The athletic training facilities at Union College provide care for all injured Union College athletes. The athletic trainers are on duty for three seasons a year (Fall, Winter, Spring), and work during preseason conditioning camps in the summer. The athletic trainers use their skills and knowledge to prevent, evaluate, treat, rehabilitate, and perform functional exams on athletic injuries incurred by athletes during practices and games.
