Head Coach
3rd Season

Whitney Elam enters her third season as the Union College head volleyball coach. She is the 10th person to take the helm of the Lady Bulldogs.

In two seasons as the head coach, Elam has compiled 54-17 overall record and a 19-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference mark. She guided the Lady Bulldogs to a 29-5 overall record and 15-1 conference record in 2009 as the team won both the AAC regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the first time in program history. The Lady Bulldogs set the program record for best winning percentage in a season at .853, helping Elam earn the AAC Coach of the Year award.

In 2008, Elam guided the Lady Bulldogs to a 25-12 overall record and 14-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference mark. Union also advanced to the AAC Tournament Championship match in 2008.

In addition, she has had six players named to the All-AAC First Team, three to the All-AAC Second Team, eight to the Academic All-Conference Team, four to the AVCA All-Northeast Region Team, two AAC Setters of the Year, one AAC Libero of the Year and one NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.

Prior to assuming the head coaching duties, Elam served as the Lady Bulldogs' assistant coach during two separate terms. The Sarasota, Fla. native spent one year as the team's assistant in 2005 before serving as an assistant at NCAA Division I Seton Hall (N.J.) University. As a member of the Pirates' staff, the team posted a 16-14 overall record in 2006.

In 2007, Elam returned to Union as an assistant coach as the Lady Bulldogs captured its first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

She has also coached the Cut Shot, Birmingham and Alabama Junior Volleyball clubs. She also traveled with the Bring It Promotions International Volleyball Juniors Summer Tour to Austria, Italy and Crotia in 2003 and 2004, and to Greece in 2007. In June of 2008, she coached a club in Nicaragua. During the summer of 2009, Elam and the Lady Bulldogs went to Nicaragua in partnership with Bring It Promotions.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Montevallo (Ala.), Elam was a four-year member of the Lady Falcon squad.

Prior to Montevallo, Elam played for Sarasota High and the Whitesands Volleyball Club. She was a three-time All-Area Selection and helped her team win the regional championship in 2000 to place 11th at the nationals that year.

Elam is married to Brandon Elam, and the couple resides in Barbourville with their daughter Isla.
