Clay Butler is the Director of Sports Medicine and Drug Education at Union College. A native of St. Cloud, Fla., Butler has many ties to Kentucky.
He was named as the head athletic trainer in 2006 after serving as an assistant since 2003. Butler was elevated to his current post during the summer of 2011.
He came to Union the spring semester of 2002. Since that time, he has helped as a student assistant, providing coverage for all the athletic teams and worked in the training room on campus, while maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average. Butler graduated in May of 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education, becoming his families third generation to do so.
Prior to coming to Union, he attended the University of Kentucky. He was a student-athletic trainer for football and baseball the 1999-2000 seasons and men's basketball the 2000-2001 season.
In addition to working with collegiate athletics Butler has also worked in the National Football League. He worked as a student intern for two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The summer of 2002 he was a student intern trainer for the Arizona Cardinals.
In 2005, Butler received his certification, having obtain his Master's from Union.
Butler resides in Barbourville and is married to the former Andra Jones.
